William Saletan has an interesting set of essays in Slate about the reality of the IQ gap between racial groups. The idea has always interested me. I guess because I’m morally repulsed by it while I can’t deny that it makes sense that the genetic factors behind IQ would vary between populations the same as other inherited characteristics. It’s something that can feel crappy to think about. But Saletan’s conclusions are actually quite inspiring. Instead of being something too shitty to be true, racial differences can provide us a better way of achieving true equality.
