Science Facts

I learned a couple of new things at this page: Science Facts that People Get Wrong. For one, when spacecraft enter Earth’s atmosphere, they heat up because of pressure rather than friction. Also, Mt. Everest is the world’s tallest mountain only when measured from sea level. Chimborazo in Ecuador is the world’s highest point as measured from the center of the Earth – that’s because Earth is slightly fatter than it is tall. And then there’s Mauna Kea in Hawaii, which is the tallest mountain as measured from its (underwater) base.
