Messier Objects

Random fact: In the 18th century, there was a comet-hunter named Charles Messier who was annoyed by things that looked like comets but weren’t. He catalogued 110 non-comet objects. These “Messier objects” are all visible to the amateur astronomer, so apparently it’s a thing to stage a “Messier marathon” where you try to view all of the objects in one night.
